By The Trash Bins is a performance/soundpiece created in collaboration with sound engineer and musician George Paris that responds to the A12 bridge as a site, merging field recording, sound sampling, costume and poetry.
It’s a work in progress and the outcome of the dissident self-appointed artist residency Under the A12 Bridge (Jan-Apr 2024).
Under The A12 Bridge Residency Programme: initiated by the artist as part of Baba Yaga Collective, it is a process artwork and form of protest against the inaccessibility of spaces where emerging artists can freely experiment and develop in non-competitive, neuroaffirmative ways. Challenging the art funding system's able-bodied assumptions, this residency addresses the barriers faced by artists from low-income backgrounds and those with diverse access needs. With unpaid, highly competitive application processes and low compensation, artists are often forced into multiple jobs, making the field precarious and exploitative.
Applications will reopen next year, expanding to welcome more dissident artists.
